Historic Night: Mariam Foundation lights the Palestine’s sky in Pink for Pink October
Mariam Foundation in partnership with the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Museum in Ramallah has lit the Palestinian Museum in pink, opening the Pink October 2022, the world wide month for breast cancer awareness.
The hosts, Mohammad Badarneh and Dina Masri, welcomed the great audience who honored us in attending the ceremony, and presented a brief about Mariam Foundation and its projects in the past 10 years, and especially about Pink October.
Thanking the audience and partners, CEO and Founder Mohammad Hamed spoke about the importance of this great partnership and cooperation in working towards raising awareness for breast cancer and early detection among Palestinian women.
Afterwards, Mrs. Adila Laïdi-Hanieh, CEO of the Palestinian Museum presented her welcoming words and expressed her delight for this kind of special ceremony taking place at the Palestinian Museum, for the message it carries is very important and is held closely by the Museum.
On behalf of our other partner and second home, Augusta Victoria Hospital, Dr. Fadi Al Atrash presented his words to the audience while stressing the medical importance of early detection and presenting the audience with facts and numbers about mammogram testings and breast cancer. Also, he thanked Mariam Foundation and spoke about the amazing partnership we have towards a well aware society about cancer in general. Following his words, were the words of Suhaila Tarazi from Gaza, CEO of Al Ahli Hospital, who spoke about the daily struggles of cancer patients in Gaza and how this kind of partnership can benefit them and help them on a daily basis.
As a sign of gratitude and partnership, Governor of Ramallah Mrs. Laila Ghanam and the Minister of Health Mrs. May El Kileh thanked Mariam Foundation for this event and for the message it carries to Palestinian women in Ramallah and across Palestine.
As a means of getting the message across, Mariam Foundation has always believed that art is the best way to do so, in an elegant and meaningful way. To do so, we were presented beautiful musical and singing pieces by Nour Darwish accompanied by musicians from the Barenboim Said Foundation, along with artistic dance by artist and cancer survivor Jumana Die`bis. Afterwards, Oscar dance group presented a dance that mimics the fight against cancer and triumph over it
Believing in the foundation’s message, both of Mariam Foundation’s ambassador Mariam Said, wife of the late author Edward Said, and the Palestinian Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib sent a taped message for the audience and as a thank you for the foundation’s message in raising awareness for breast cancer in Palestine.
At the end, the foundation’s members and partners gathered around the stage to light up the museum’s building in pink along with the Salesian Church in Nazareth, Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza and the Augusta Victoria Hospital in Jerusalem via livestreaming.
